Beauty and the Beast type tales are one of the most often adapted for Young Adults, but other writers adapt many other fairy tales or combine tales and tropes together. Some of the more well-known include Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles), Donna Jo Napoli, Jackson Pearce, Shannon Hale, Sarah J. Maas, Melanie Dickerson, Althea Kontis, and many more. Other writers retell fairy tales over and over for adult and explicit audiences.

Blanca and Roja by Ann-Marie McLemore

Please read the preview of this recent fairy tale adaptation by the writer Ann-Marie McLemore. They have created a unique blend of several stories, including swan stories, Snow White and Rose Red, and intertwined various Mexican folktales and mythology elements. Themes in the novel include a search for identity as the sisters try to navigate a family curse and whether people must be what has been dictated to them at birth.
