I love the spread that you shared with us that compares a hijab to the sky, special *and* regular. I especially love the phrasing/idea that the first day of wearing hijab means being strong. It is such a simply way to phrase a sentiment that people might otherwise not understand. I suggest you check out Mommy’s Khimar by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow! It does a lovely job at presenting a khimar as something that is of wonder and beauty and self-love/respect/expression. There is a page in it that compares it to a hijab. It also makes a note that different religions can coexist within a family, as the child has a grandma that attends Sunday services at church! The framework of the story puts focus on wearing a headscarf as a choice.

I also agree with you and support that The Proudest Blue can be a future classic! I wonder if there is any emphasis on the experience of being a hijabi in America?
