Picture Books as Art

Illustrators are artists.

They are usually the first artists children get to know. Many of you might have had an illustrator or author/illustrator whose work you loved and sought out.

The original illustrations of a book might be done in any number of mediums and are often highly prized pieces.

What do you think? Would you go to an exhibit of children’s book art? Is there an artist you would want an original illustration from?

I would enjoy going to an exhibit of children’s book art, I think it would be cool to see different kinds of illustrations from different artists. In some way I feel like it would make my inner child happy to see different art and how each piece makes a story.

I would absolutely enjoy going to an exhibit of children book art! I would enjoy seeing the multiple illustrations. I enjoy seeing how we all illustrate the same books in different ways.

Yes, I would definitely go to an exhibit of children’s book art. To see the original illustrations up close would be an amazing experience. Last sunday, I took my children to Fairy Tale Forest in NJ. It was so beautiful even for me, an adult. There were houses/ castles from every cartoon like Rapunzel, The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocccio, and many others. I will add a link here for you to look at these castles. https://maps.app.goo.gl/G4HnnbqtsuDyZJKH8

I would love to go to this exhibit because it’ll unlock childhood memories on all my favorite stories that stuck with my head even now. I remember I loved reading as a child and looking into those memories would be a fun experience.

I would love to go to an exhibit about the art in children’s books. I have noticed that art in children’s books is always very colorful and tells a story on its own – even without the text. I feel as though the details all paint a story of their own and must be paid close attention to. Also, I find this style of art to be beautiful and captivating as well as often lighthearted.

I would love to go to a children’s book art exhibition because the pictures are always expressive and can tell a person so much. The images are creative and put a picture to all the stories I loved reading as a kid. I would like to see more original illustrations of curious George, the Dr. Sue’s books, and many of the fairytales I grew up loving.

I would absolutely love to go to an exhibit of children’s book art. I really believe it would be both an educational but truly fun and entertaining experience to endure upon. I would love to be able to see up close original illustrations as well. Personally, I would love to see Jeff Brown’s original illustrations from the “Flat Stanley” book series. I loved reading the entire series as a child, and I know I would genuinely appreciate the experience of being able to see the authors original illustrations of the series itself.

Attending a children’s book art display would be fascinating, in my opinion. It would be enjoyable and bring back memories of my early years. Additionally, it would provide an opportunity to recognize the imaginative power of the images and their role in creating stories, possibly even inspiring fresh concepts for my work at my daycare!

I would go to an exhibit of children’s book art because I think it would be a cool experience to see all the creativity. There’s not really an artist that I would want an original illustration because I think it would be cool to see different artists creativity.

I would love to visit an exhibit that specifically features the artwork from children’s book creators who are both Author and Illustrator of their work! To me, that combination can only come from people who truly understand and produce for their audience. Capturing and keeping children’s attention is hard enough on its own, so to do so “alone” through a work that has to successfully communicate a message to children without then having a conversation with them….? Phew.

I’d love to visit an exhibit of children’s book art to see the illustrations up close. I’d want an original from Eric Carle because his colorful, textured art, like in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, is so unique and lively.
